Billing & Payments

Do you take dental insurance on assignment for payment (also called direct billing)?

Yes, we can arrange payment plans. Please talk to any of the reception staff to arrange a workable payment plan for you. We don’t charge interest on plans that are 3 months long or less.

We understand that life happens and occasionally you may need to cancel an appointment. We don’t charge for cancelled appointments, however, we do ask you to give us at least 24 hours’ notice when possible to cancel or change your appointment.

Dental Emergencies

Do I need an appointment to see a dentist? I have a dental emergency.

No, you do not need an appointment for a dental emergency. We accept walk-in appointments and will prioritize emergency patients on the day of. If you are experiencing a dental emergency during office hours, please call us and we will prioritize your appointment for the same day. Learn more about our emergency dental care here.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency after hours, please phone us and our answering service will get you in contact with a dentist from the clinic as soon as possible. The good news is that many dental emergencies can be handled with a phone call, or perhaps a prescription called into a pharmacy.

COVID-19

Do I have to wear a mask in the clinic?

You are required to wear a mask at our clinic, both to protect yourself and others and as recommended by the Alberta Dental Association & College. Of course, during dental treatment your mask is removed.

If you have a personal objection or health reason to not wear a mask, please inform the receptionist at the pre-screening event so that our team can help assist you.

General Questions

Are you open extended hours?

Yes, we are. We take appointments as early as 7 a.m. and we stay open until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  We’re open almost every Saturday from 8 a.m.–2:30 p.m. to better meet our patients’ needs.

You’ll see the same dentist every time you visit us, except in cases where you need unscheduled emergency treatment and another dentist can see you sooner. You (and your family if applicable) are all booked with the same dentist unless you request otherwise.

Southgate Dental Centre is fully digital for taking X-rays and this allows us and you to view your X-rays on our monitors.

Digital X-rays are easier to share with dental specialists, easier to store, and better for the environment as no chemicals are required to develop the X-rays.

We use Cerec CAD-CAM technology to offer convenient same-day crowns. However, you first need a consult with the dentist to see if this technology is appropriate for your tooth or teeth.

We’re happy to offer Invisalign treatment. Before going ahead with treatment, your dentist will need a consult with you to decide if your problem is treatable with Invisalign clear retainers.

We recommend bringing your child for a dental exam within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth, which is generally between the ages of 6 and 12 months. With this timing, we can consult with you on bottle feeding, diet, and tooth care before problems start.

In a child’s dental exam, X-rays, cleaning, and fluoride treatment are only performed as necessary. Most children don’t require X-rays until around ages 5 to 7.
