Oral health is a delicate balance. Even the slightest issue could have quite serious implications if it isn’t dealt with properly. Your dental health team will do what they can to make each service as comfortable and simple as possible, so you don’t have to dread a root canal. Visit Southgate Dental and let us take care of you.
All services are performed by general dentists.
A root canal is a relatively simple procedure performed to save a badly damaged or decayed tooth. When the tissue inside a tooth (called the pulp) becomes infected, it puts the rest of the tooth in danger. A root canal removes the infected pulp of the tooth and fills the empty space to prevent infection in the future.
A typical root canal can be broken down into three steps.
The dentist will apply anesthesia or freezing to the affected tooth to help minimize discomfort. Once the freezing has taken affect, your dentist isolates the tooth from the rest of your mouth with a rubber sheet called a dental dam.
The procedure begins by drilling a small hole in the top of the tooth, granting access to the pulp. Using a series of small tools, your dentist will remove the diseased pulp through the hole in the tooth. Once the infected pulp has been taken out, the dentist will set to work reshaping the inner chamber of the tooth, preparing it for a filling.
The health and well-being of our patients is our top priority. With the escalation of COVID-19 coronavirus cases, our dental practice is suspending all elective and non-essential dental treatment. We will keep you informed as updates become available.
