Oftentimes, damaged teeth don’t need to be fully removed; they may be salvageable. However, sometimes the process of salvaging a tooth changes its shape and functionality. Dentists use crowns to restore that tooth, helping it appear and function more naturally.
All services are performed by a general dentist.
A crown is an artificial tooth that’s hollow on the inside, similar to a helmet. This helmet fits over the salvaged tooth, helping it look, feel, and function more like a natural tooth.
All of our crowns are CEREC® ceramic material. Porcelain crowns often ook and feel quite natural. In addition to being similar in strength and colour of a natural tooth, CEREC® crowns may only require one appointment to take an impression and one appointment to install the crown. Not every patient is eligible for CEREC crowns.
The VITA Easyshade® system to ensure your crowns match your other teeth as closely as possible. This machine uses complex software and sensors to replicate and produce the correct colour.
The first step to installing a crown is to file the tooth down to the right size and shape to allow for the crown. At this point, the dentist will take an impression of the tooth which is then sent to a lab for fabrication. In the meantime, your dentist will install a temporary implant to protect the tooth.
Once your crown is ready, you will come back in so your dentist can remove the temporary crown, replacing it with your new, custom-designed crown.
